Fostering a Climate Action Ecosystem
As the new year kicks off we’re pleased to report that GG19 (Gitcoin Grants round 19) was even more fruitful than the previous one. Many thanks to our myriad donors! 🙏 We’re waiting on a confirmation and then we’ll edit this post and report the numbers.
This grant round played out differently because the climate project category has spun off into a separate org. As the newly formed Climate Coordination Network explains:
“We have decentralized the @Gitcoin climate program.”
The CCN has its own Climate Solutions Portal which collects all relevant information for Gitcoin grant applicants and donors. It includes documentation, guides, and videos about how to participate.
There is also a separate Telegram group which complements the application process by focusing all climate related discussion in one channel. Any questions not covered in the portal can be posed in Telegram. Answers, either from grant managers or colleague participants, arrive quickly.
That’s the emergent upside to the spinoff: a climate grant community is developing. People are highly supportive of like-minded projects and the Telegram group functions as a gathering place. It’ll likely stimulate collaborations between grantees.
The Round Managers also organize X Spaces where applicants are invited to shill their projects. This brings participants into a social audio space that adds a whole other human dimension to the community.
This burgeoning ecosystem provides constructive value for the climate category grantees. Congrats to the Round Managers who pulled it off!
Let’s hope the community continues to interact between grant rounds. For those that *are* collaborating in some form, please make it visible in the Telegram group. 👀 That’ll help foster the climate action ecosystem. 🌱
